Joanna Castner, Ph.D. in technical communication, is developing a Certificate in Information Design for the University of Tampa. Students and members of the community will be able to take the three courses and earn a Certificate in Information Design.

The first course in the series is being offered this next spring semester. This class is entitled "Information Design," and it will cover a number of design principles and theories such as Gestalt principles relevant to design, the "contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity" rubric, Jacques Bertin's _Semiology of Graphics_, Sense-Making, wayfinding, and the latest research in the field.

The next course in the series will be Technical Editing. It is scheduled to run next fall. The course will include theory and practice in both comprehensive editing and basic copyediting, using hard copy and soft copy texts.

The final course will be held in the spring of 2006, and it is a course in international technical communication, tentatively entitled "Cross-Cultural Communication for the Web."
