As many of you know, the Society for Technical Communication is undertaking a transformation. The hope is that this transformation will result in new ways to reach out to what has become a much more diverse membership. As part of this transformation, our Suncoast Chapter volunteered to be a pilot chapter. Being a pilot chapter in the transformation spurred us to think of ways we can reach more of our geographically distant members, as well as initiatives that will meet diverse needs.

Even though we have completed the pilot transformation process, we will continue to think of ways to meet the needs of our members. We will continue to transform, as does our membership. As a result, we are working on implementing the following ideas:

• Using technology to allow members to attend monthly meetings from their homes or offices
• Holding more informal, networking meetings to allow members more time to get to know one another, share information, and learn about new jobs
• Facilitating broader networking opportunities among the other state STC chapters, as well as other related professional organizations

As you renew your dues, you will find that one outcome of the transformation so far has been the creation of various levels of membership. You are no longer required, for example, to affiliate with a particular chapter. As you think about the level of membership most appropriate for your needs, do know that everyone will still be welcome to attend any Suncoast events, including the ability to attend meetings at a distance. There will be different pricing structures for chapter members and non-members, though; chapter members will be able to attend at a cheaper rate, so you may save money by retaining your affiliation.
